Head Coach, Women's Volleyball

As Soon as Possible to April 30, 2020 

Duties: The College of the Rockies, Student Life and Athletics Department, is currently accepting applications for the position of Women's Volleyball Head Coach contract position. The successful candidate will have the proven experience to lead a team in the PACWEST as well as an understanding of a student-centered approach to coaching. This is a one-year term effective May 1, 2019 with the possibility of renewal. This position reports to the Manager, Student Life and Athletics. 


  • Recruit, develop and mentor student-athletes with high athletic skills and great character;
  • Develop the overall athletic plans to maximize player and team development;
  • Provide coaching leadership in the ongoing development and improvement of the student-athletes, coaching staff and overall program;
  • Create a community of loyal supporters and partners;
  • Complete adherence to and support of the PACWEST, CCAA and College of the Rockies policies and procedures;
  • Supervision of team on all road trips.

The Head Coach is also responsible for ensuring that safe facilities and equipment are provided, and that the coaching staff are properly certified. The Head Coach will develop recruiting networks through contact with secondary school athletes, coaches, clubs, teachers, parents, camp programs, etc., and will help promote the team through the local media, community and school districts. 

The successful candidate must be a team player who works respectfully and cooperatively with the Manager, Student Life and Athletics and Avalanche Athletics staff in scheduling, facility issues, travel planning, budgeting, apparel and completing the necessary administrative requirements. Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, organization, leadership, coaching and technical skills are also required. 

Additional Requirements:

  • Good understanding of the PACWEST and CCAA leagues, their policies and expectations;
  • Experience recruiting student-athletes;
  • Exceptional interpersonal communications skills, sound organizational skills, strong motivational abilities and a commitment to fair play;
  • Strong knowledge of sport specific training and technical skills development;
  • Ability to coach during evenings and attend competitions (home and away) on weekend;
  • Ability to attend coaches' meetings and related special events;
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, organize and lead team specific fundraising activities is an asset;
  • Ability to work in a team environment. 

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have at least two years coaching experience, preferably at the post-secondary level or high school level and a minimum NCCP level II coaching certification. A Class 4 BC Drivers' license would be an asset. Successful candidates will be required to complete a Criminal Record Check.

Salary: $12,000 - $15,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
